Boy am I a slacker!

       I really need to get my act together.  I can't believe it's been 2 years since I've been here.  I need a kick in the tush.  With that said hopefully I can redeem myself a little today.

     Things have been a little busy around here and now this virus thing looks like it's going to complicate things even more.  Have spent the last few years dealing with family member and cancer.  Both husband and one son have been battling it.  Husband has been cancer free for a couple years but son is restarting his chemo trips.  It seems like we're running back and forth for the treatments all the time.  I keep my prayers and fingers crossed it all comes out okay.  I've been okay, thank God, and my yearly Dr's appointments have been fine.   Sad to say my sister lost her husband last year.  Bill was a great guy and we will all miss him.

     The bright spots in all this are the wedding of our oldest grandchild Aaron and his lovely wife Claire.  What a beautiful wedding it was.  The happy couple have had 2 additions to their new family.  Two of the most beautiful kittens ever. 

     Then our oldest granddaughter got engaged on Christmas eve right here in out living room.  The highlight of our annual Christmas gathering. They plan to be married next year in April. 

     Our younger grandson and granddaughter are continuing their educations in college and doing very well.

     Oh, and almost forgot.  Oreo keeps us on out toes with frequent trips outside, looking for warm weather to stay out and play.  He's such a funny little dog and can't believe how lucky we are to have him. I coulc go on and on about the way he expresses his orders. 

    Well enough for now.  Hopefully I will get my act together and post much more often.

Second month

Well here it is, the second month of the New year and things don't seem to look any better in our world.  So sad how the people behaving toward one another.  The division and hatred seems to be fine with way too many people.  I won't rattle on and on, just say I hope soon things will improve.

Now on to my plans ahead.  This is the start of my usual yearly checkups. One tomorrow and one next month. Hoping for good reports.  First one with the Cardio DR. and second the primary Dr. They'll probably tell me to lose that weight I put back on after last year.  I had lost 45 lbs. during the year of the cancer scare the hubby had and then my hip surgery.  Have put a bit of it back on. Hubby is feeling so good he's back to cooking which is no much help to me. LOL!  Keep a good thought.

Our youngest granddaughter just graduated from high school 5 1/2 months early.  She has always worked so hard on her classes.  She has carried a perfect 4.0 honor roll for her entire school years.  Taking added classes at the tech school to aid in her college entrance, and working a job also.  We are so very proud of her.  

Well I have lots to do.  Bought a new sewing machine as my Janome died and there is no fixing it. So  now I have work to do learning the new machine.  It's an embroidery machine and I guess I find out if I'm capable good work on it.  lol

Happy New Year!

Well here it is, the new year and I'm already a day late on my plan to post more.  Must be the cold cold weather.  Spend more time keeping warm that doing much.  -2 right now and that's a rise from earlier today. 

Been no earth shattering happenings here lately and that is a good thing of course.  Everyone seems to be doing well. Sister finished her PT for her knee and will be going back to work some time soon.  I know she's not looking forward to that, but what are you going to do. Bills don't wait and you need to eat.  Since she's the one who makes the soups we all eat in the winter we do help with a dollar or too, lol.  

If any see my fb they know the dog has taken over our lives.  Oreo is the master of the house and all who enter. 

I know this is short but I wish you all a good 2018.

Posting Lazy Me

Boy, I really have to get my act together.  I let too much time go between postings.  Maybe I should give it up, but just can't make myself do it.  

Well I'm happy to say all that hard work with the therapy paid off.  My last trip to the Dr. in June had everything just where they wanted it.  He said I could go disco dancing now.  I laughed at that,  Told him never been discoing in my life, wasn't going to start now.  Just getting back to normal (for me anyway) was more than enough.  Don't have to go back for a year.  Now to behave myself so nothing goes wrong in the mean time.

Jack is still doing great.  All checkups and blood test come back good.  He's put weight back on and really looks good.  I had lost weight while caring for him as he had trouble eating and with the hip pain added to it I just wasn't hungry and didn't want to eat in front of him either.  Well, since he feels so good and eating he's cooking again.  Well guess who also put back on a few pounds.  Had lost 45 but have now gained back 10 so it's not too bad.  Trying to hold it there or lose the 10.  Wish me luck.

Family has been doing good.  All seem to be healthy and doing great. Oldest grandson graduated from UW Platteville with a degree in forensics and got a job with a state lab.  Became engaged to a wonderful girl.  The rest are doing great and I won't go into all the detail.  There's just too many of them, lol.

Been helping my sister Jodi.  She had to have knee replacement surgery so with the experience I went through I had some insight  into what she would go through.  Our hospital here added a special wing that deals strictly orthopedic surgery and it's awesome.  I even made the paper when they were publishing about the new additions, (have a  new heart specialty floor too).,  Well back to Jodi.  Lucky for her I had my problem first as she benefited from all the equipment to aid in her recovery.  She's doing real good but we warn her not to overdo or rush things.

Now to the baby.  Oreo is doing just fine with all the turmoil.  He definitely is Jack's buddy though and with Jack off hunting Mom isn't the best substitute.  The walks are shorter and the game we place with him and the Giggle ball takes two, so he pouts a bit while Jack's gone.  With that he is wanting to go outside.

Been awhile....

1. Been awhile since last here, but so much has been going on.  Where do I start?  Hubby started going downhill and in Sept. we found out he had Lymphoma.  The low end of the prognosis was less than a year the high maybe a year but not much longer.  The girls were with us and the diagnosis and the looks on there faces was one of the most awful things I've every seen.  Started treatment and though it was really tough, as the treatment is as bad as the disease at times.  I'm very happy to say the results were worth it.  He is in full remission at this time and all looks good.
2. While he and the family were dealing with all that I was quietly dealing with a hip problem.  I had been have what I thought was a pinched nerve in the groin and limping became a way of life.  There was no way we could deal with both at the same time so I just put of a trip to the Dr. until we were sure he would be okay.  Tried therapy thinking that would help but alas no  such luck.  Finally the first week of May saw a Dr. and low and behold I was badly in need of a new hip.  Well on May 30 the deed was done and the Dr. said it was the worse case he has ever seen.  Absolutely no cartilage at all.  They all don't know how I suffered that pain for  so long, but you do what you do with the cards dealt.  As for the result, so far all looks good.  Following orders, doing the exercises prescribed, doing physical therapy and walking (with walker right now) twice a day.  First Dr. appt. with x-rays Wed. and hope all looks good.  Will be sure to report whatever news I get.
3. I have been so pleasantly surprised at Oreo's behavior when I came home. They Dr's. etc. worried about pets under the feet.  The little darling has been just wonderful of stepping out of the way and not jumping on me.  I don't know if it's just cause he's a good boy, or afraid of the walker (probably) but I opt for the good boy. 
4. Next thing on the agenda is to sell the camper. Darla came down and helped her dad clean out anything we didn't want to keep and put away what we did.  Jack is taking to the rv dealership and service center to have it all checked, washed and a idea on what to ask.  Darla had the banker run it and it has a decent value.  We took real good care of it and except for the dirt from snow melt over the winter looks really good, as does the inside.  My sister Rhonda already has a potential buyer who can more than afford what we will ask, hope so.
5. Well time to get to another set of exercises.     You all have a nice day and take care of yourselves.

Here I am again.

Having a bit of a time trying to decide what to chatter about.  All sorts of things run through your mind until you sit down at the keyboard.  It is frustrating when that happens.  So here goes.

Football season is upon us, and here in Wisconsin it's always a big deal.  We love our Packers and Badgers and are not shy about it.  We always have a friendly rivalry with out Bears loving cousins and friends.  Usually while the game is playing, lol. Of course there are those that take it too seriously but we don't let them get to us.  It's a football game.  Just that, a game.  Win or lose it really doesn't change anything for us.

This year our Badgers get to play LSU at Lambeau field, home of the Packers, in a non-conference game..  I hear they're pretty excited to go there.  To start the season off we're having an end of summer, beginning of football yard party.  Hoping to have a tv set up outside to play the game.  If not that definitely the radio going.  I'm sure there will be lots of Badger shirts etc., so hoping to get some shots of all the fun.  Will share if I do.

Guess I better go.  There is this little ball of fur who has to go outside.

The Big Event.

Well I'm back.  Missed telling you all about the big event in the family last year.  My son Jared married his Heidi.  It was a wedding we will never forget.  They decided on a late October wedding, and yes, they had a Halloween theme.  Guests as well as all the wedding party joined in the fun fully and completely with decor and costumes.  It was held across the river from where we live in that beautiful Big Hill Park I've used for pictures at times.

I'm a bad girl.

I am ashamed.  I didn't realize just how long it's been since I've been here.  Hope you all peek in to see I'm still around.

Things around here are about the same as usual.  Family functions seem to take up a ton of time.  Guess that's the rewards of a big family.  Had two graduate from high school this year and one last year.  One left but that will be two years from now.  Normal yard parties etc.

Had a bought with a frozen should last year during the fall.  Six weeks of therapy and it works just fine now.  Guess I wasn't working hard enough with that arm.  LOL.  All other checkups for then were just fine.  Now it's time to start that routine again.  Lost a few pounds so the dr. should like that.

All the kids are doing fine as are the grandkids. One (Austin) starts college to be a teacher, another (Aaron) added another year to his studies for a double major.  He's taking forensics and police science.  Has been spending the summer working as an intern in a forensics lab and just loves it.  Two of the girls are taking online classes.  Alyssa I'm not sure what, Nicole was planning on journalism but decided on special ed daycare.  Carson is the one with two years left of high school.  I don't think she's decided yet, but I don't think with her grades (straight A's for 10 years so far) she'll have a problem getting if when she does.

Mother's Day yet to be.

Our family hasn't had our Mother's Day get-together yet.  The weather never co-operates on that day for some reason.  Also, many conflict of if everyone could be there.  My son made the mistake of order Brewer tickets for that day, and we were to have it at there house (silly boy).   Nicole's prom was that weekend (we always do it on Saturday so we can party longer).  That eliminated them too. A couple of others had problems with that day. We have decided to have it on the 23rd and combine Mother's Day and Father's Day. We all enjoy doing it in our big family group, so accommodations must be made.

Looks to be a busy summer.  Our granddaughter Alyssa is graduating and there will be that party of course.  Trying to get in a few camping trips this year.  Having a redneck camp out in the yard sometime soon. Need to get Oreo accustomed to it.  Sad to say he is 2 1/2 years old and we've never had it leave the yard yet.  Guess we're just going to have start missing some get-together's.  It's either that or put it up for sale.  It's rather silly to just have it sit there. May check into finding a camp ground to just leave it at.  Thing is, the guys have to have it for deer hunting.  What to do?  What to do?

Gosh, it seems like it was just yesterday I watched her while her mother worked.  Time really flies.

...of the SNOW.  Yes, that is a 4 letter word to me.  We've had 8 to 10 inches in most areas here and that's much more than I care to see.  Some would ask "why do you still live there".  Well reason number 1.....children and grandchildren and the close family we have..  I'm one of those who likes to be close to family.  2...Too old to pull up stakes now.  3...I like the change of seasons.  Just prefer spring, summer and autumn to be a little longer and winter a little shorter.  Ok, enough crabbing about the weather.  Hold that thought, nasty weatherman predicted another 2 inches.  Ok, done now.

 

Question?  Do you prefer have sone kind of sound on, or complete peace and quiet?  Hubby can't seem to deal with quiet on a long term basis (more than 2 hours, lol).  Has to have the tv, radio or cd on most of the time.  My sister Jodi like to have it too.  We can sit at the picnic table in the summer and she has to have the radio on in the background.  Me, I can go without any all morning until noon when the soap comes on.  Then turn it off until about 6:30 most of the time.  When sitting outside by myself, never have anything on (radio, I know where some could go with that statement, lol) for hours.  We humans are a funny bunch.

 

 

 



Goodby Nitz!

Lost a dear friend and cousin a few days ago.  That darn cancer took her from us too soon.  It was a quick moving one.  We only learned she had it just after Christmas.  Tumors thoughout.  

 

When we were in our first years of marriage we lived in an apartment owned by my grandfather.  We lived in the downstairs one and Nitz and Larry (he was my cousin) lived upstairs.  We were both pregnant and our girls were born two weeks apart.  Many nights (hubby's worked nights) we would sit together and play cards, watch tv etc.  When the went days it was more cards, watching and playing Jeopardy against the contestants (didn't do too bad), watching Days of Our Lives as the babies cooed in the playpen.  

 

Once we had a storm to worrry about.  Tornado warnings were sent and being the resourceful girls that we were, we set up a card table in the basement, filled the wash tub with soda and the baby bottles.  Grabbed bread, lunchment, baby food jars and rode out the storm.  Fortunately the tornado missed us.  But we really had fun down there. 

 

Nitz always had a smile for everyone and the memories just keep rolling.  Rest in Peace Nitz.  I know your parents have welcomed you into their arms.  

Waiting, waiting and more waiting.

Yesterday was just one of those days.  Seems like all I had to do all day was wait for someone.  Day started with health care appointments.  First the yearly booby crushing at 9:15 so was there at 8:50 (I like to be early).  Got in at exactly 9:15, yahoo.  Thought it might be a good day.  Had another trip to Dr. appt. upstairs for 10.  So up I went.  There was one other lady there so I'm thinking good.  In and out.  No such luck.  While waiting three men joined the group.  We sat, and sat, and finally a nurse came up and said he was running late due to a patient problem downstairs.  These appointments happen at the hospital, not the clinic. 

 

Well finally the first woman went in and what the heck?  One of the men, then another of the men, and then the last man.  In came another man and sat down, but it was my turn to go in.  Nurses took my bp, good-124over70.  No complaints there.  Next the ekg and wait for the doctor to come in. Waiting, waiting.  Aha, here he is.  Goes over all the lab tests, ekg, bp, and says I'm doing great.  All is good and keep up the good work.  See you next year.  Guess who they saved to see last.  Yup, you got it.  Me.  I went out the door and make new appt, they were all standing around in hall having a fun time.  Was time for their lunch break.  I made it home just before Days of Our Lives came on, 12:00.

 

It's a good thing I'm a very patient person who had nothing else to do that day.  Someone else would probably have thrown a fit.

 

Now that's not the end of my waiting story.  A little after 1 a truck hit the cable lines, knocking them loose from the house.  The pole is across the street so the line was stretched across to us.  Called and said they would send someone out asap.  I told them the school bus comes through between 3 and 3:45 and it was in its path.  Waited again.  They showed up after both buses went by, about 4 or shortly there after.  We had to put something in the road to make sure no one hit it. 

 

 



It's up.

The tree that is.  We don't usually put it up before the 10th, but the weather was nice enough so Jack could get it out of the garage.  No snow or ice to deal with.  Have some decorations sitting on the table to be put in their proper places, but daughter-in-law and her sister do a yearly cookie bake so there is also a bunch of pans waiting to be picked up on the table too.

 

Gave a few decoations away for raffles at the Moose.  Didn't dig out all of them this year.  Guess the lack of snow (which I don't mind) didn't help in getting us in the mood.  I love Christmas and all the decor but the work can get to a person.  It always looks so festive when it's finally done.

Believing in Santa

Did you believe in Santa.  It was a right of passage in growing up for most kids.  I know I did, as did my children.  How long do you let a child continue in that belief?  I think most parents know when a child is able to hear the truth.  Especially if you teach the real meaning of Christmas right along. 

 

My kids each learned at different ages for many reasons.  Many kids hear it from their friends at school.  Others parents.  Always, the truth hurts a bit.  Let me tell you about my youngest and her love and belief as well as learning the truth.

 

My husband was with the fire dept. and they always had Christmas parties for the kids.  There was this gentleman in town who was a wonderful Santa and always the on they fire dept. hired for the night.  When she was 2 and Santa came into the room she ran and jumped into his arms.  She did not want to get off his lap while he handed out presents.  He let her stay. 

 

As we belong to a couple other organizations who had parties, it was quite the thing that the same man was Santa.  We never took her to the Malls etc. so she never saw how Santa changed at different places.  Her sister and brothers never spilled the beans. 

 

Well when she went to school it was okay for the first few years.  But, by fifth grade the kids were trying to convince her there was no Santa.  They asked her if she didn't notice the difference in the places she went.  Wasn't he tall and skinny in some, etc.?  She had to say no.  So she believed right up to the fifth grade and we finally had to burst her bubble.  She took it so well and even explained to the kids why she believed so long.  There was no teasing etc. so it all turned out well. 

 

I don't know if waiting helped her deal with it or what, but happy that she didn't fall apart and get mad. 

 

 



Hello! Yes it's me.

It's that time.  Elections coming and I just hate turning on the tv and hearing the incessant ads.  Enought to drive a person to drink, lol.

 

Been in pretty goos health around here.  Knock on wood.  When I read or hear of all the friends have a problem I feel lucky.  Got my notice from the Doc. that it is time for the dreaded colon check.  Hubby just had his and all was well and I expect the same.  Will get it done next week.

 

Signed up for a My Health online health management tool.  I will be able to view my labe results, documents, medication or Download My recors.  I can renew medication, view or request an appointment etc. all through the Health System I go to. 

 

My granddaughter Steph was married last weekend.  She was a beautiful bride and the wedding was gorgeous.  It was outside at the Beckman Mill.  A site that had been let go for years and has been completely refurbished.  It is just beautiful.

 

There was a sad note that day though.  Her dad (Darla's husband Jim) was having trouble breathing.  He hadn't been feeling well for a little over a week, but is stubborn and put going to the doctor.  Well as soon as the wedding was over and he got in the car Darla took him right to the emergency room and they admited him.  No reception for them.  He had pheumonia and pulmanary hyperstension, along with COPD.  They got him under control and he came home this Sat.  He will have to be on oxygen though. 

 

Well I guess I had better get those sheets from the dryer.  I am challenging myself to post a least once a week. 



Time flies!

It seems like it was just yesterday we brought this little fellow home.

It was yesterday that he was 2 years old. 

 

He has grown so much.

 



 

I must say, he has become the light of our lives.  He is so loving and funny, it's hard to imagine when he wasn't a part of the family.  He has definitely learned how to control us, for the most part.  Much smarter than I thought he was at first.  He just had to mature a little to learn things faster.

Things seem to have quieted down a little bit around here.  I think the police finally getting some ID's on the trouble makers and posting their pictures have helped some.  Now if they can just catch them.

 

 

 

 

 



Yes! It's me!

My Gosh!  I can't belive I have been away so long.  It's not like I don't have the time, being retired and all.  I could try to blame Oreo as when the weather is good I have to sit outside with him.  He won't stay out there alone, and after reading an article about dog stealing and then calling you for ransom, I don't mind.  Bad weather keeps us in of course, so there is no excuse there. 

 

Things have been kind of wild in this area .  The city to the south has had 7 killings since the first of year.  It seem a few people have decided they don't like each others.  If they want to do each other in I guess that's their weird idea of settling things, but when you start shooting in a public park with kids playing, it's going to far.  Of course every clams up and didn't see or hear a thing.  So you have people calling for shots just about every day, and it's usually fireworks they're not suppose to be using either.  Finally I think someone decided to talk and they have warrants out for some people.  The area confuses people though as the city and the township we live have the same basic name.  One being the city of and the other the town of.   Danielle got a new job and one of the guys was giving here the business about where she lived.  She kept telling him she didn't live in the city, but out in a separate community.  Though that's still too close, he's finally convinced.  I just hope and prayer they get the fools and this mania can stop.

 

Have to say she loves her job so far.  They have even sent her to CA. for training.

 

Been having to send out so many prayers lately for some dear people.  I know all the prayers will help. 

 

Well you would think this would be real long after all this time, but I have to go pickup the hubby.

Will try to do better.  Hugs to you all.

 

 



Stormy Weather

Boy that storm that went through here yesterday was different.  Some areas in the area got wind, heavy rain, hail and even a tree or two down.  Pictures this morning from the city north of us of damage.  Had a tree go down and block a road completely across the road from Shopko, my favorite place.  A friend put up a video of the hail hitting her car while she waited for her daughter across the street from the high school.  Cousin put up pictures of the large chunks of hail that came down by his house.  Us, we got rain and some wind and that is all.

 

It was pretty scattered and funny.  FB friends were reporting what was happening there and I kept saying not here.  It went through our neighborhood with little fanfare.  One bout of heavy rain quickly and it was over.  My sister Jodi said it was strange as she sat at her dining room table and watched it cross across her deck in a line and done.  It amazes me how such things happen. 

 

Hope everyone out there didn't have any serious damage.

As many of you know we always have a big family get-together, and this year was no different.  Almost everyone was there.  We did miss Sherry's son and grandson, and my daughter-in-laws brother & family, but the rst of us made it. 

 

As you can see, we are just a small group.   Lol!

 

Was a great time, with good food and even better people.



It's depressing...

.....the weather I mean.  All gray, gloomy and rain on and off.  Poor Oreo spends most of the day on the back of the sofa staring out the window.  I sure hope the May flowers are in abundance with the April wet weather. 

 

Even more depressing is the bad behavior of people.  There have been two murders within 24 hours here last week.  Police are still trying for figure if they are connected.  How do you get people to learn to deal with problems in a better way.  Life is too precious to use violence to settle a disagreement.  In addition there have been about 6 or 7 hit and runs. One resulting in the death of two people on motorcycles.    Though it was a tough decision to make, I commend the dad that turned in his own son for the death of those two motorcyclists he hit and ran.  I really feel for the man.  Had to be the hardest thing he ever had to do.  

 

I don't know if I ranted about his before but there is a neighbor on the next street who lets his dogs out without a leash.  Needless to say they seem to think our yard is their dumpling grounds.  We carry a bag for out own little dog so our nieces and nephews little children are not stepping in Oreos business.  They play here a lot as we have a big yard.  Danielle has chased them out of the yard twice.  This morning it happened again and my hubby decided they need that stuff in their own yard.  He took a bag out, picked it up and went over and dumped it in their yard.  LOL!  Trying not to have to report them, but if it keeps up we will have to.

 

Sorry this is such a downer.  Just had to vent a little. 

 

One a upnote.  My daughter has an interview tomorrow for a new job.  I sure hope she gets it, as she's not real happy at the place she is at.  I pray it all goes her way.
