The trip down to visit Mary and Jim was just wonderful. We had so much fun, right from the get go. Sherry brought Bill's GPS and we no sooner got on the road (we weren't even out of the area) and the darn thing said "You have arrived at your destination". She had to redo it. Needless to say that got us laughing. Rhonda brought a printout and they kept comparing, or should I say competing on the accuracies. Needless to say they were both spot on but we girls had fun with it. One time it said go right and Rhonda's pointing left getting Jodi all confused. We laughed so hard she could hardly see.
Mary was waiting outside the hospital for us and she gave the valet attendant Jodi's name and boy did he mess with her. He called her by her name and said it's really been a long time since I saw you. She was really confused as she couldn't remember him at all. Sherry was not help. She had read his name tag and said, "Jodi it's Andrew". Another good laugh at that one.
Jim was looking pretty good. Mary said when they brought him in was so gray it was terrifying. He couldn't seem to eat as it bothered his stomach so he was getting IV's and that has brought his color back. He was feeling much better when we saw him that morning. But was a little down when we left. The doctor was just going in and Mary was telling him what Jim was feeling, as he is the none complaining type and never says anything. He did eat a bowl of soup the day before and yesterday so that is a good thing.
That Cancer treatment center is just awesome. Not only is a beautiful place but everyone is so friendly and helpful. Guests to visitors even get the lunch free. There are pictures on the walls of those they helped, a big whiteboard map of the U.S. with the number of those that are there from each state. Even Alaska and Hawaii have people there. There's a big gold tree on the wall made of gold leaves with the names of 5 year survivors. I say again it's just awesome.
After visiting Jim, Mary took us sightseeing and we went to the lake, which by the way took us back to WI. lol. What a beautiful site. The lighthouses, beach, the huge boulders and the marina of boats was really a sight to see, and guess who forgot her camera. All of us but Mary. They took photo's with their phones and Jodi sent some to fb. My battery was low so no photo's here for me. I may have to go and steal some from fb.
After the lake we went to a store called "Charming Charlies". What a place. Everything is sorted and displayed by color. There is tons of jewelry and nothing over $14.95. The clothing articles we all $24.95 and many of them were made in the good old U.S.A. The purses were under $50. I think we were there over and hour. Then on to supper. We went to Applebee's and enjoyed a great meal, good service and the most wonderful company ever. Didn't get home until after 8. It was a great day.
I think it was just what Mary needed. We're already thinking about doing it again. This has to be hard to be away from family for so long. Especially for someone like her who is so family oriented and like to be and keep them all close to her. She is one marvelous little lady.
What an award winning day! I'm so glad things went so well for you all!
