..is not one of my husband's strong suits. It's not that he get crazy, he just complains a lot. Poor Oreo has only been here a week and he thinks he should be totally potty trained by now. He gets frustrated when the puppy does a no-no. I know it's us who have to keep an eye out for when Oreo starts wandering about sniffing so we can grab him up and go outside. Sometimes we don't watch him close enough and you know what happens. Well I will change the subject, sure you would like to read about better things. LOL
He is quite a frisky little fellow. Doesn't care much for being crated but there are times when that is necessary until he can be totally trusted when we're not at home. Had trouble at night ashe would whine, bark and cry on and off all night. Wouldn't use the bed we bought. Then I read up on Shih-Tzu's and decided to put in right where we were during the day. If we're on the computer it's between us etc. Within a hour he crawled in and went to sleep. So we took it up to our room at night and he sleeps in it nicely. Only problem. He likes to get up at 4:30 UGH!
This weekend we will be getting the camper ready for winter. Blowing out the lines, anitfreeze the pipes, and covering it up. It's suppose to be nice here so there is no better time to get the job done. Will be putting the yard swing and picnic tables away also, so if there are anymore nice days for Granny's night it will have to be on Jodi's deck, :-).
You all have a nice weekend.

It takes awhile for pups to understand what is expected of them, and he is still missing his doggie family. Just give him lots of love and lots of praise when he does things right. It will get better.
ReplyDeleteI used to have a dog all the way up till I got married as a teenager. Last one we raised from a little puppy, Jack. He had red hair just like mine (was). I loved him so much. Daddy wanted him so when I left for FL I left Jack behind and not three months later, he was hit by a car. It was horrible for me.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't have a problem training him and I can't understand why not! Grateful but how odd as Oreo is doing it the way it's usually done..a drawn out procedure. Have you tried puppy pads? That may help.
Well, the right one got voted off last Tuesday and I hope the right one will this Tuesday. Then it gets relaly hard. As the rest are all excellent.

Puppy pee pads....Katie Isabella is right. We trained all three of our dogs to go on them and it was simple as pie....the frozen kind you just pop in the oven. Seriously. Just spend a day doing nothing but sitting with Oreo. Anytime you see him start to hunt a spot or squat, say, "no" in a loud voice....loud enough to startle him, then pick him up and put him on the puppy pee pad. He will use it. And then he'll go there from then on. I don't know why, buy it works. Then as he gets older and understands you, inch that pee pad closer to the door...then right on outside the door. He will get the idea and start going outside. Mine NEVER go inside, unless they are sick and we aren't at home, of course....but then it's not their fault. Oreo will get it. My hubby didn't have patience with my dogs either. I would babygate them in the kitchen (as a matter of fact, they still are babygated there when they aren't outside). When they weren't used to being apart from their puppy families and were crying, I would take a mat inside the kitchen and lay down on the floor with them and sleep. That always stopped the crying. They just want to be with you. They want your approval and love. Make sure you praise Oreo and hug him and kiss hime each time he goes on the puppy pee pad...nothing works better than positive reinforcement. It works on hubbies, too. lol
ReplyDeleteYou'll have him trained before long. Some good advice here.
ReplyDeleteSo you could say you guys are really pooped huh? LOL! I so well remember the times with a puppy we've had in the past. I'm sure it will all work out before too long. I wish you a wonderful weekend my friend.
ReplyDeleteYou will have your puppy trained before you know. Great advice from everyone.
ReplyDeleteAwww your puppy sounds so cute. Now you've got the picture - Dogs and cats usually like to be in the same room with us - then they will be content in a cage. You will be good doig parents. Please post pictures when you can.
ReplyDeleteTerry, your puppy is no different than a little babycum toddler, and like them it will learn to be clean, you don't see teenagers walking around with nappies [diapers] or using pee pads, put him outside when he's been fed and intervals give him a key word, I use 'get busy' and stay with him till he obliges, as soon as he does, tell him 'good busy' and reward him with a tit-bit and take him straight indoors, don't leave him outside to sort it out by himself, he must be 'taught' and he soon will learn 'get busy' means oblige me please. trust me i train dogs professionally.
