Well I must say, the beef tips and noodles dinner at the Moose was the first time I have been disappointed in a meal. The beef could have been cooked longer as it took some time to chew it. The noodles were not soft but thick and chewy.
I wonder sometimes about those in charge of our state. I'm talking about the Concealed Carry Law that was enacted here, making WI the 49th state to allow such. Now I don't really understand the need, but as hunters explained if they have a coat over their gun while hunting you would be in violation of the law so this will prevent that. Okay I guess. I know they have tried before to get the law passed and then Gov. Doyle vetoed it saying if you want to carry a gun just strap it to your hip and carry it as we have open carry here. Well with the change the NRA (who has been pushing for it) got their way. Okay again. But, the Attorney General (who is of the same group) added a 4 hour training session in order to get a permit. Makes perfect sense to anyone, wouldn't you think? Well legislature with backing by the NRA, in it's infinite wisdom, put on the pressure and the legislature had that dropped. Now my problem with the whole thing is the police have to have 40 hours of gun training, but any yahoo can buy a gun, get a permit without any safety training at all. Yes, some are turned down but not for that reason. It just doesn't make any sense to me. Guess I'm just stupid.
Guess this was a downer post. Sorry about that. Just had to get if off my chest. I feel better now.
"It isn't polls or public opinion at the moment that counts. It is right and wrong and leadership---men with fortitude, honesty, and a belief in the right that makes epochs in the history of the world." Harry Truman
I am concerned about carrying concealed weapons. I agree there needs to be safety training.
ReplyDeleteI think it's stupid and a waste of tax payer money. Now they are thinking about letting people hunt in public parks. Not that I'm a cross country skier or snowmobile rider I would now be afraid to do any of those in a public park if that passes. They have sh*t for brains if you ask me. Ok, I'll get off my soapbox and go punch a pillow lol.
ReplyDeleteI'm a concealed weapon permit holder too and have been for almost ten years now. It took extensive training at a gun club and a certification plus an interview with the Sheriff that had to have some vouchers for my character...frankly I think this is as it should be. I left that course feeling anything but a loose cannon and have a new found respect for what it means to carry. Blind fear of weapons is stupidity...training and respect are essential.
ReplyDeleteQuite frankly this whole idea of people walking around with guns scares the day lights out of me. I have no objection to hunters using guns (safely I might add). But I do not like the idea of going to a park with people carrying guns for fear one of them will be a NUT CASE and start shooting. For that matter, I'm probably not going to go to too many public things anymore for that very reason. I have lived all my life without a gun. I do not know what the average person needs one for in WI unless you are a hunter. Our crime around here isn't at that point yet. It angers me actually. Yes I have a blind fear of weapons and will never allow one in my house.
